On the occasion of our 26th Birthday, Radio One is going Green!
We're starting a long term project to promote the use of energy-saving solar products in Lebanon.
Plus we will help in re-planting our beautiful forests and preventing further forest fires.
Radio One is going Green to Keep Lebanon Green!

Radio One is Going Green:
Did you know that if every household in Lebanon turns off one incandescent lamp of 100 watts for eight hours only, a national saving of energy worth 29 million dollars will be achieved?
Did you know that a small size office can save 235USD per year by turning off all office equipment outside office hours, instead of keeping them on a stand- by mode all night long?
Solar panels are a great way of saving money. Although it may feel like you’re spending a lot at first, you really are saving in the long run because they pay for them selves in the first 3 to 5 years of getting the solar panels and then you’re literally getting energy for another 15 years for free! ………Now how do solar panels actually work… well they generate electricity using the same principles of electronics ….. It’s quite interesting actually, the sun releases particles called photons, and when they hit the silicon of the solar panel, electricity is created! Of course, the solar panel must be placed at the perfect angle otherwise the amount of electricity you generate could drop by 50 percent… The good thing is, once they’re installed, the solar panels need no further maintenance!
Solar water heaters are also a great way of saving…. And it’s not that expensive, if you’re a family of 4 people, a solar water heater with a water tank capacity of 150 litres should be enough and it costs 650 dollars. Think about it… you won’t have to pay to heat your water anymore!
We should really start taking care of our Lebanese environment much more by recycling. Like cans and glass bottles and paper.
Actually, recycling one aluminum can, saves enough energy to run a TV for 3 hours!!
And recycling one glass container saves enough energy to light a 100-watt bulb for 4 hours!!

Here are some daily tips to help save the environment:
  • Turn off equipment like televisions and stereos when you're not using them. That little red standby light means they're still using power - and that means a contribution to global warming.
  • Save water:
    - turn off the tap when brushing your teeth.
    - collect the water used to wash vegetables and salad to water your houseplants.
  • Call your local government to see if they have a disposal location for used car batteries and other hazardous household wastes.
  • Recycle your paper, glass, plastics and other waste. Call your local government to find out if they offer a collection service.
  • Use rechargeable batteries.
  • Send e-greetings instead of paper cards.
  • Help reduce the world's rubbish dumps - don't use "throw-away" products like paper plates and napkins, and plastic knives, forks, and cups.
